The foundry and hot-rolling mill in Chertal were build in 1963 by Espérance-Longdoz and were able to produce 1 600 000 tons of steel a year. The company was sold in 1970 to Cockerill-Ougrée-Providence and after a few mergers it finally became property of ArcelorMittal in 2006. In the last decades the production was increased to 3 500 000 tons of steel a year.

The foundry was closed in 2011 together with the high furnaces in Liege. The hot rolling mill stayed active, but was shut in january 2013 for an unknowed time.
